For a fixed monthly fee, a vehicle maintenance contract includes all scheduling servicing, replacement tyres, MOT and other repair costs that may be required during the term of the contract.

Any work on your vehicle will also be carried out by qualified technicians at accredited garages so you can rest assured that your vehicle is in safe hands.

NB: If you choose not to take out a maintenance contract with your lease vehicle, you will be responsible for all maintenance and servicing costs throughout the duration of your contract.

What does the Maintenance Contract include?

Maintenance contracts are offered by the finance provider and as such, can vary from policy to policy. As a general rule, most maintenance contracts include:

Routine servicing and maintenance for the duration of the contract
Mechanical repairs due to fair wear and tear including batteries and exhausts
MOT tests (if applicable)
Tyre repair and/or like-for-like replacement (exclusions apply)
Breakdown assistance (dependent upon finance provider)
Service booking and management service
Vehicle collection and delivery (where available)
Complimentary vehicle wash and vacuum (dependent upon finance provider)

What is not covered by the Maintenance Contract?

As with any type of contract, there are exclusions which will not be covered by the maintenance contract. This includes:

Repairs or replacements due to driver induced faults (e.g. lack of regular maintenance/servicing)
Damage sustained in a road traffic accident or caused by malicious damage or vandalism
Missing, stolen or broken items e.g. bent aerials, missing hub caps
Tyre and wheel replacements caused by abuse, neglect, theft, vandalism or sidewall damage
Excessive tyre replacements due to punctures
Damaged windscreen and/or glass replacement
Misfuelling
Consumables (e.g. oil, lubricant and fluid top ups or AdBlue, unless part of the service)

Frequently asked questions regarding vehicle maintenance

A vehicle maintenance contract is an additional product which you can add onto your monthly lease rentals to cover routine maintenance, servicing and MOTs for your lease vehicle during the life of the contract. Maintenance is a popular product with business lease and personal lease customers who do not want the hassle of shopping around for routine servicing, maintenance or MOT costs and who would prefer to spread the cost of these services over the term of the agreement.

Maintenance contracts are offered by the finance provider and as such, vary from policy to policy. If you are interested in taking out a maintenance contract with your lease agreement, Nationwide Vehicle Contracts will provide you with a full list of inclusions and exclusions offered your finance provider.

As a general rule, most maintenance contracts include:

Routine Servicing (as required by the manufacturer)
Mechanic repairs due to fair wear and tear
Tyre repair and/or like-for-like replacement (exclusions apply)
Batteries
Exhausts
Breakdown assistance
MOT (if applicable)

Typical exclusions include

Repairs or replacements due to driver error or driver induced faults
Repairs due to accident damage
Missing or Broken items e.g. Bent Aerials, Missing Hub Cabs
Vandalised and Stolen Wheels and/or Tyres
Damaged windscreen and/or glass replacement
Misfuelling
Lubricant and Fluid Top Ups between service intervals (e.g. Oil Top Ups, Screenwash Top Ups)

A relief vehicle is not guaranteed as part of your maintenance package. However, this may be available at an additional cost, dependant on your finance provider.

As each maintenance contract is different, you will need to check the finance document for a full list of exclusions.

No, this is something you must add at point of order. All of our lease agreements (excluding Complete Care) do not include maintenance as standard.

No, maintenance is an optional product. It is worth noting however that if choose not to take out a maintenance contract with your lease vehicle, you will be responsible for all maintenance and servicing costs for the vehicle throughout the duration of your contract. This includes ensuring that all tyres are of a legal standard at all times.

Unfortunately not. A maintenance contract can only be added on at point of order and cannot be added onto the lease contract at a later date.

All lease agreements arranged by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts come with the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty which generally provides cover for faults for a fixed period of time (typically three years from point of registration) with no charge for the parts or labour.

The manufacturer’s warranty however does not cover you routine servicing, and any components and tyres that wear out gradually due to normal usage. It is your responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is serviced and maintenance according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. This includes ensuring that all tyres are of a legal standard at all times.

Yes, VAT is 100% recoverable on the maintenance element of your contract provided your business is VAT registered.

Unfortunately not. If you need to replace glass or your windscreen during the duration of the lease contract, you should speak to your finance provider in the first instance who will be able to assist you with this. For lease vehicles on a 3 or 4 year contract, an MOT will be required three years from published taxation point, in line with UK law. If you have taken out a maintenance contract with your lease agreement, an MOT test will be included. If your car does need a MOT, please call the finance provider to book the vehicle in.

To book your vehicle in for routine servicing and/or its MOT test, please call the maintenance contact number in the documentation provided by the finance provider. If you do not have this to hand, please contact our Customer Services team on 0345 811 9595 (opt 4) who will be able to assist you.

For vehicles with a maintenance contract in place, any work on your vehicle will be carried out by a qualified technician at an accredited garage or franchised dealer.
