Minibus FAQs

A minibus is a full-sized passenger-carrying van designed to carry between eight to 16 people. Their versatile seating makes them popular with businesses who need to transport a large amount of people, such as schools, colleges and charity organisations. Please note that most manufacturers include the driver when quoting the total number of seats in a minibus.

A minibus is a passenger-carrying van, designed to transport between eight to 16 people in a range of seating configurations. 

A crew van is light commercial vehicle designed to carry both crew and cargo. It offers seating for up to six people and usually has a payload in excess of one tonne.

Nationwide Vehicle Contracts has a range of minibuses available to lease on Business Contract Hire agreement including the Toyota ProAce, the Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle and the Ford Transit Custom Tourneo. 

You can drive a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats provided you are:

  • Aged over 21
  • Hold a full car driving licence
  • Do not accept payment from or on behalf of the passengers (e.g. it’s not for ‘hire or reward’) 
  • You meet certain conditions

Outside of this criteria, you will need to apply for a minibus licence.

Unfortunately not. You are unable to use a leased vehicle for "Hire & Reward" purposes as this is not permitted by the funder. This includes Taxi, Chauffeur, Driving Schools and Rental companies. 

Some funders may also have additional restrictions in place for customers who work in the Motor Trade. Please contact one of our Leasing Consultants for further information regarding this.

You can lease a minibus with Nationwide Vehicle Contracts on a Finance Lease agreement or a Contract Hire agreement. These are business lease agreements available to eligible Limited Companies, Sole Traders, Partnerships, Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP) and Public Limited Companies (PLC).

Unfortunately, we don’t offer Contract Purchase or Business Lease Purchase agreements.
