If you need a van that's environmentally friendly, practical, and can fit your whole crew on board, look no further than the Ford E-Transit Double Cab. Arguably one of the best electric vans around, it's a great choice for sole traders or fleet drivers.
Rivals to the Ford E-Transit Double Cab include the Renault Master E-Tech, Maxus eDeliver 9, Fiat e-Ducato, and Peugeot e-Boxer.
Our Ford E-Transit Double Cabin review covers:
The fourth generation of the Transit range has been around since 2019, and although the E-Transit has led to various updates, not much has changed regarding the exterior. At the front, there's a large front bumper, a horizontal front grille, and a couple of air intakes in the bonnet. The rear follows a boxy design, as you'd expect for a large van, but some neat creases in the bodywork give it a sporty feel.
In the front, there's space for three people to get comfortable. The driver gets their own seat, and the passengers share a two-seat bench. To access the rear seats, you'll need to open the side-sliding doors and step up into the van. Once there, the seats are comfortable, and there's a lot of leg and headroom.
The E-Transit Double Cab comes with a load volume of up to 8m3 and a gross payload of up to 1,525kg. However, it's worth noting that you can't get these capacities together. The van is available in two heights and one length, with the heights varying the capabilities.
While you can tell that Ford has prioritised practicality over luxury inside the E-Transit Double Cab's cabin, there's still room for some nice materials. The glossy black trim around the infotainment system looks good, and the steering wheel feels nice. Most importantly, everything feels built to last.
Sitting atop the dashboard is Ford's 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which includes smartphone integration, voice recognition, and Ford SYNC 4. It's an excellent system to use and will come in very handy for your business, especially with features like Ford Pro e-telematics, which helps you track your fleet's daily operations.
The E-Transit Double Cab comes with two trim levels: Leader and Trend.
Leader has 16-inch steel wheels, automatic air conditioning, a 5G modem, keyless start, tinted glass, a moulded bulkhead, and an emergency hammer.
Trend adds a digital rear-view mirror, adaptive cruise control, power-folding heated wing mirrors, a blind spot information system, and LED lights for the load compartment.
The E-Transit Double Cab is available with an 89kWh battery that's available in standard-range or extended-range form.
The standard range battery is built for heavier cargo and businesses that work on multi-drop routes. It has a maximum range of up to 211 miles and can carry a payload of up to 1,525kg.
The extended-range battery is suitable for businesses that operate over greater distances. It returns a maximum range of up to 249 miles but decreases the payload to 1,298kg.
The standard range version has DC fast charging capabilities up to 115kW, which will take the battery from 10 to 80% in approximately 37 minutes. The extended range battery increases DC fast charging capabilities up to 180kW, charging from 10 to 80% in under half an hour.
Considering the E-Transit Double Cab is a large van, it behaves more like a smooth-riding car on the road. The electric powertrains cause the van to glide across the road with ease, making it superb to drive at low speeds.
The instant torque provided by the motor means you can shoot off from stationary, meaning you won't be holding up traffic in the city.
As you increase the speed, it remains composed and comfortable. You'll have no qualms about taking it on a long journey, and the pleasant cabin can help you really relax.
