The Volkswagen T-Roc Hatchback is a popular compact SUV and a good choice for small families. It looks good to the eye, is practical, and has a range of petrol and diesel engines available.
Rivals to the Volkswagen T-Roc Hatchback include the Ford Puma, Seat Arona, Audi Q2, and the Mini Countryman.
Our Volkswagen T-Roc Hatchback review covers:
The VW T-Roc Hatchback is undoubtedly attractive, and not much has changed to the exterior from the last generation. To keep us happy, Volkswagen has added alloy wheels and an expansive front grille that wraps around the headlights.
Those in the front have a good amount of headroom and won't be rubbing shoulders with the person next to them. It would be a squeeze for three adults in the back, but this is nothing out of the ordinary for a compact SUV.
Boot space is excellent for the VW T-Roc Hatchback, coming in at 445 litres, which is competitive and exceeds the Audi Q2. However, be wary if you choose a four-wheel drive variant, as boot space decreases to 392 litres.
The interior of the T-Roc Hatchback has seen the most significant upgrade. There are soft-touch plastics on the dash and leather door trims in place, depending on the spec. Quality does decrease in the rear, but overall cabin comfort is good.
The T-Roc Hatchback comes with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard, which is relatively responsive to touch. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard on all trims, and voice activation and sat-nav get thrown in from the Style trim and above.
Four trims are available for the VW T-Roc Hatchback, including Life, Style, R Line and R.
The entry-level Life trim comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, ambient lighting with logo projection, and park assist, including front and rear sensors.
The Style model comes with 17-inch wheels, a 10.25-inch high-resolution dash display screen with customisable menus and information, a standard navigation system with media and internet package, and rear tinted glass.
The R Line model has 17-inch wheels, 'R-Line' design body-coloured bumpers, driving profile selection, and heated front seats.
The top-of-the-range R comes with 18-inch wheels, four-wheel drive, the 'R' styling pack, and its exclusive 2.0 TSI 4Motion 300PS engine.
A range of petrol and diesel engines are available for the VW T-Roc Hatchback, with either front-wheel or four-wheel drive.
The entry-level front-wheel drive 1.0-litre TSI is good enough for most, achieving 110PS of power and a combined fuel consumption of 47.1 mpg.
If you want more power, it's worth upgrading to the 150PS 1.5-litre TSI, which will give greater performance if you've got a heavy load. Also, the two diesel engines pull away well from low revs, so if you plan on having a full car most of the time, either would be a wise choice.
The top-of-the-range engine is the four-wheel drive 2.0 TSI 4Motion 300PS unit, which is only available in the R model. The 2-litre unit can achieve 0-60mph in under 5 seconds, but it comes at a cost, putting it on the level of the likes of the BMW X1.
With the T-Roc Hatchback being a compact SUV, it's more suited to urban and open-road driving than off-roading. It will be a good companion for your commute to work each day and is well weighted.
For the front-wheel drive choices, the suspension proves effective over potholes and large bumps, whilst the four-wheel drive options keep the driver engaged and are fun to steer, tackling tight bends with ease.
