The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a high-end, luxury, electric-powered saloon that combines exceptional cabin quality and comfort with the almost utterly silent running you expect from an electric car.
Rivals to the Mercedes-Benz EQS include the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Our Mercedes-Benz EQS review covers:
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is eye-catching on the road with its exterior design and coupé line characteristics. Unlike the traditional three-box saloon shape of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the all-new EQS is almost arch-shaped, with the roof running in one continuous line from the front wheels to the rear, and there's virtually no bonnet.
Despite its swoopy roofline, the Mercedes EQS has a broad, wide body that results in plenty of space up front. It's also more spacious in the rear than the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-tron GT, but it's not as relaxing as the S-Class to travel in the back as the rear seats place you in an oddly upright position.
As for boot space, the Mercedes EQS 610-litre boot which expands to 1,770 litres with the rear seats folded down. Compared to its rivals, you get 60 litres more volume than the S-Class and far more than the E-tron GT and Taycan boots. However, the Tesla Model S beats them all, with a boot that can hold 650 litres, plus another 150 litres of storage space under the bonnet.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS has a great interior that is strikingly designed and has incredible levels of comfort. Many of the materials used in the cabin are made of lots of recycled plastics, which look and feel great.
The EQS cabin is dominated by its hyperscreen. It's three screens under a big glass panel, with one for the driver's instruments, one in the middle for the main infotainment system, and a third in front of the passenger. The big central screen uses the familiar MBUX software setup as in the E-Class and S-Class.
Two trim levels are available, including AMG Line and Luxury.
Entry-level AMG Line models get 20-inch alloys with aero covers, an AMG styling pack, LED head and taillights, rear-wheel steering and a panoramic sunroof. It also has swathes of leather and wood trim, a 12.3-inch driver's display, a 12.8-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen, an AMG-style steering wheel and sports seats.
Luxury trim models add 22-inch alloys, grey side skirts with chrome inserts and unique bumpers to this model. Inside, Luxury trim models are like a small yacht with its boat deck trim on the dash, two large screens and comfort seats trimmed in leather and acoustic privacy glass.
Mercedes-Benz offers the EQS in two variants, the EQS 450+ and AMG EQS 53.
The EQS 450+ models get 328bhp and have an official range of more than 450 miles between charges. The AMG EQS 53 gets a remarkable 649bhp for truly impressive performance, but its range of fewer than 360 miles is less appealing.
The EQS also has rear-wheel steering and a suspension system that watches the road ahead for bumps and remembers where they are for later.
Overall, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has been set up more for comfort and quiet than for handling and speed, making it an excellent leasing option.
Prices for the new Mercedes-Benz EQS start from £104,750.00 OTR* or to lease from Price On Request per month.
