Labelled as five-door hatchback but with the feel of a lavish coupé, the Kia Stinger sets a new standard for for the Kia brand, taking on premium manufacturers like BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen in the competitive sporty executive class.
The adventurous model comes with rear-wheel drive and a huge standard kit list that blends style and quality to provide an exciting experience for its drivers.
Our Kia Stinger review covers:
The Kia Stinger has a slick and eye-catching design with an expansive bonnet, long wheelbase and sloping roofline. Sitting at 4830mm in length, the Stinger is longer than competitors, such as the Audi A5 Sportback and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, with a silhouette that broadcasts its sporty intent.
Inside, the Stinger blends comfort with affordability. There is enough head and legroom for anyone over six foot tall in the front, and there is a generous amount of storage space for all your driving accessories.
As for boot space, the Stinger offers a 406-litre boot that can be extended to 1,114 litres with the rear seats folded.
The Stinger's interior is simple and well equipped, with Kia not overcomplicating the issue. The interior features black leather upholstery, ventilated seats, a premium sound system and a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The touch screen has sharp graphics and is equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The only downside is that it lacks the quality of some of its more executive rivals, such as Audi and BMW, but this contributes to the Stinger's lower price. The lower you go down the dashboard, the cheaper the buttons look, but they still serve their function.
Just one trim level is available, named the GT S. The model comes with a very good range of equipment, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a 15-speaker premium audio sound system and a 360° around view monitor.
Under the bonnet, the Stinger's 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine delivers a mighty 361bhp. It can achieve 0-60mph in a rapid 4.8 seconds, so you certainly won't feel disappointed with the way it gathers pace on the road.
All versions come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It's slick and responsive if you shift manually using the steering wheel-mounted paddles but a tad hesitant in auto mode. The brakes are effective at shedding speed, with enough pedal progression to avoid any jerkiness in stop-start traffic.
Kia has made the steering precise, and as a result, the car is nicely weighted and nimbler than its substantial weight would suggest. This makes it fun to drive on tight and twisting country roads whilst also maintaining its comfort and control on wide and faster roads.
It also makes for a decent long-distance cruiser. At speed, only particularly coarse surfaces whip up much road noise, and wind noise is kept to a minimum.
Prices for the new Kia Stinger start from £42,445.00 OTR* or to lease from Price On Request per month.
Leasing a Kia Stinger may be less expensive than an outright purchase because of fixed monthly rentals, a low initial investment, variable mileage, and contract terms.
