The Audi RS6 Avant is a performance-based estate car with both brains and brawn. Coming with rapid performance and a generous amount of practicality, the RS6 Avant is perfect for families looking for an exciting lease car.
Rivals to the RS6 Avant include the BMW M3, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo.
Our Audi RS6 Avant review covers:
The exterior of the RS6 Avant is the definition of aggressive. There's a dark front grille with slick headlights, black alloy wheels, and a low-sitting rear end that looks fantastic. Kudos to the designers because it's the best-looking estate on the market.
Climb inside the RS6 Avant, and there's a spacious and comfortable interior. Two adults can easily fit in the front and three children in the rear. If you've got an older family, two adults shouldn't be too disgruntled about space in the rear, and it's certainly more spacious than the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo.
Boot space comes in at 565 litres, which is pretty average for an estate, being bigger than the BMW M5 but smaller than the Mercedes E-Class. You can also fold the rear seats 40/20/40 to reveal 1,680 litres of cargo space.
As you'd expect from a performance-based Audi, the RS6 Avant's interior is superb. The dashboard is excellently built and features a range of premium materials, while the upholstery is fantastic and has been finished to last. You also get Valcona leather seats as standard, which are upgraded to Alcantara and Nappa leather seats from the Carbon Black trim.
Audi has gone for a two-screen set-up for the A6 Avant. The lower 8.6-inch screen is used mainly for climate control, while the higher 10.1-inch screen controls the infotainment system. Both screens display sharp and responsive graphics but can be tricky to use when driving as there's no rotary controller.
Behind the steering wheel is a 12-inch virtual cockpit with bright and clear graphics that are easy to read. It displays all the required driver information and can be controlled through buttons on the steering wheel.
Three trims are available for the RS6 Avant: Performance, Carbon Black, and Vorsprung.
Performance has 22-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights, a rear spoiler, privacy glass, four-way electric and heated front seats, Valcona leather seats, four-zone automatic climate control, a pair of touchscreen infotainment displays, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and air suspension.
Carbon Black has matt black alloy wheels, exterior styling in carbon and gloss black, Alcantara and Nappa leather upholstery, and carbon twill interior inlays.
Vorsprung adds RS sports suspension plus with dynamic ride control, a panoramic glass sunroof, heated front and rear seats, power-assisted door closing, night vision assistant, and 2 USB-C ports with charging functionality in the rear.
Under the bonnet, the RS6 Avant has a 4.0-litre V8 engine that returns a whopping 630hp. It comes with four-wheel drive and has an automatic gearbox.
For an estate car, this is a ridiculously powerful engine and accelerates like a bullet train. You'll shoot from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and top out at 174mph. It counters the exhilarating performance by going through fuel like there's no tomorrow, returning an average of 23mpg (expect much less when driving at speed).
Get on the road in the RS6 Avant, and you get scintillating performance that's also quiet and comfortable. Even though it houses all this power around town, it's a comfortable car to drive. A bit like Bruce Banner before he turns into Hulk.
It deals with potholes and bumps in the road well thanks to its air suspension and also comes with plenty of visibility all around. You get loads of safety tech, and the car can actually park itself.
Get on the motorway, and the engine begins to kick into action. You'll accelerate to 70mph with no issues at all, and once there, you can cruise along without a care in the world. There is a bit of road and wind noise, but it's nothing to worry about.
On a country road is where the RS6 Avant comes into its own. Continuing the Hulk-themed comparison, on a country road is where the RS6 Avant transforms from Bruce Banner turns into Hulk. Although a big car, it handles superbly and feels nimble through the corners. Combine this with the all-wheel drive system, and you can really kick on and have some fun.
