Nationwide Vehicle Contracts lists the top ten cars you should consider taking to the golf course
If you play a lot of golf, you need to consider how to get your clubs to the course. Golf clubs are a strange size and shape, so sometimes it can be very tricky to fit them into your car.
If you've got a smaller car, it's just not going to cut it; you'll be trying to cram your bag in the boot, and it will just make for a stressful experience and, even worse, could lead to damaging your clubs!
You need a car that's big enough to store your clubs whilst also making loading/unloading a stress-free experience, ensuring that you maintain maximum levels of relaxation before tee time!
To help make the selection process a little easier, Nationwide Vehicle Contracts has listed the top ten cars you should consider taking to the golf course.
1. Honda Jazz
There's no doubt you're reading this thinking, 'why would I choose the Honda Jazz'. But bear with us; the Jazz is a very logical decision to take to the golf course.
When taking your clubs to the course, you want maximum practicality. Because of the Jazz's shape, there's a low-loading lip, meaning it doesn't take too much effort to get the clubs into the car.
Also, if you want more space, Honda's 'Magic Seats' in the back allow the base of the seats to be reclined vertically like cinema seats. This makes for a massive area in the back of the car that will easily fit your golf clubs and other accessories. Also, its name might subconsciously transfer to your golf; you never know!
2. Skoda Octavia
The Skoda Octavia might not have some of the flashy elements of other cars, but it's one of the most practical cars on the market and would be a solid choice to take to the golf course.
It has a generous 600-litre boot, which can be extended to a seriously impressive 1,555 litres with the rear seats folded, more than enough space for your clubs. There are also optional extras, including a double-sided boot liner which will come in handy when the weather's not so good.
The Octavia also has a range of engines to suit your every need, including hybrid technology. And thanks to its recent exterior update, it won't look out of place on your course's car park.
3. Volkswagen Golf
Yes, the Golf is on the small side, but it must be good concerning its namesake, surely? Well, you'll be happy to find out that apart from its name, there's a good reason that the VW Golf is on this list.
The Golf is a great choice to take to the golf course, with its boot easily holding a set of clubs. The rear seats fold down, allowing a boot of 1,270 litres which will be enough for both sets.
The Golf is one of the market's most affordable family hatchbacks, so you won't have to break the bank to get behind the wheel. Handy if you're paying expensive club membership fees.
4. Mini Clubman
Mini's have evolved so much in the last twenty years that we're now talking about their practicality and space, not their minuscule exterior and good looks that became so iconic with us Brits.
The standout feature of the Mini Clubman is just how easy it is to load your golf clubs. The barn-style doors open outwards, giving you complete access to the 360-litre boot. If you still need more space, the rear seats fold down 60:40 to accommodate the bigger clubs.
If you're looking to impress your fellow golf club members, the Mini Clubman's eye-catching exterior will do some good. It underwent an exterior upgrade in 2019, including a revised front grille, headlights, and distinctive Union Flag LED taillights.
5. Kia Stinger
The Kia Stinger is a sport saloon car that's luxurious and fun to drive. The Stinger is a perfect blend of performance, comfort, and practicality, making it seriously tough for golfers to ignore. I'd expect to see a lot more of them on the roads in the coming years, especially heading towards the golf course.
The Stinger has a 406-litre boot, which can be extended to 1,114 litres with the rear seats folded, making loading and unloading your clubs as easy as possible.
If driving the Stinger, you certainly don't want to park it at the back of the car park. Its eyebrow-raising good looks are sure to be a conversation starter in the club bar.
6. Ford Puma
The first SUV to feature on this list, the Ford Puma, is an affordable option for a golfer. It’ll be a loyal companion on the way to the golf course and will easily hold your golf clubs and accessories.
Let's get straight to the point, the Ford Puma's selling point to golfers is its boot. You can lift the boot's floor, exposing an additional layer and allowing your golf bag to sit completely upright. This makes extra room for other accessories, such as clothes or shoes.
You'll also have no issue locating your Puma after your round, with its distinctive front grille and bonnet making it stand out from the rest. Although unique, it's still good-looking.
7. Jaguar E-Pace
Jaguar cars attract to a golf course like Britons attract to the pub on Christmas Eve; it's inevitable. The only surprise with the Jaguar E-Pace is that it's had to wait until number seven to feature on this list.
The E-Pace would be an excellent choice for golfers because of its boot space and practicality; the 425-litre boot, intentional or not, was designed to fit a set of golf clubs, albeit widthways.
As always, with a Jaguar, you'll look good whilst on the roads, and it will certainly stand out at the golf course car park.
8. Audi A5
The Audi A5 is available in a choice of models, but for you golfers, we recommend choosing the Coupe or Sportback models.
The reason for this is that the two above have generous boot sizes. Even with the A5's sporty exterior and DNA, they'll easily fit your golf clubs and you don't have to put much effort into lifting the clubs into the boot, as the lip is relatively low.
The A5 is also a great cruiser, so the added weight of the clubs and a few passengers shouldn't impact performance too much.
9. Range Rover Sport
The Range Rover Sport is one of those SUVs you'd expect to see when turning into a golf course car park, and there's good reason for this. The luxury mid-size SUV has a range of kit as standard and comes with an excellent level of practicality, proving a perfect partnership for a golfer.
Its got a whopping 647-litre boot, which should fit at least three golf bags and all your other golfing accessories. With the rear seats down, this can extend to 1,491 litres, but you shouldn't need to use this all too often.
The Range Rover Sport will also be at home on the country lanes towards the golf course, and if the weather is a bit adverse, it’ll have no issues tackling harsh conditions.
10. Jaguar F-Type Coupe
Looking at the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, you might bet against its chances of fitting a set of golf clubs in the boot, but it can fit two. Jaguar knows their market and knows that enough boot space for golf clubs is a big deal for many of its customers.
Open the boot and you'll find 407 litres of boot space, enough for your clubs and any accessories you've got. As a sports coupe, you shouldn't have too many issues lifting your clubs into the boot.
You could find a cheaper car that fits the bill, but you don't care about that, you want to be driving the best-looking car at your golf club, that's why you've chosen the F-Type! The powerful V6 will turn heads as you pull into the car park; just make sure nobody is about to tee off before you rev.
