A bit like Top Gear, The Grand Tour was centred around its specials and for a good season. The specials are an exhibition of motoring fun, taking the trio to all corners of the globe and getting up to their usual mischief.
But, like many others, you're probably wondering what Grand Tour specials are the best.
In this blog, we'll explore the seven best Grand Tour specials and why you should watch them.
In this special, the trio head to the African country of Namibia to showcase the brilliance of the beach buggy.
The special aims to prove to producer Andy Wilman that beach buggies are alright. However, the boys must make their own buggy.
The boys navigate over the vast Namibian desert to reach the capital of Windhoek, and in true Grand Tour fashion, there are plenty of laughs along the way.
In season 4, the boys headed to Vietnam and Cambodia and swapped their usual cars for boats. Yes, you heard that right.
In this special, the trio choose three boats to travel from Siem Reap in Cambodia to Vung Tau at the bottom of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Sounds pretty straightforward, right?
Well, not so much, when a monsoon hits and throws a couple of spanners in the works!
Who remembers lockdown? What a strange time to be alive. However, there was one thing that made it a little brighter and it's this special.
In 2021, the trio headed on a road trip to Scotland in three popular American cars that never caught on in Europe. Clarkson got a 19-foot-long Lincoln Continental, Hammond a Buick Riviera, and May a 20-foot-long Cadillac Coupe DeVille.
In their usual ways, the boys cause some chaos on the streets of Edinburgh and build a homemade floating bridge!
A Scandi Flick was the last Grand Tour special, and it bowed out in exceptional fashion. The boys head to Scandinavia and travel from Northern Norway to Finland in AWD rally-inspired cars.
They visit Cold War submarine bases, race on a frozen lake, and get up to some carnage at a ski resort.
Oh, and how can we not talk about James May's crash? In this special, he puts the tag of 'Captain Slow' to bed by absolutely flooring his Mitsubishi Evo in a drag race. It's fair to say it didn't go well as he ended up in hospital!
The trio heading to South America again? Count me in! In this special, the lads are tasked with heading to Colombia and photographing various animals that can be used as Amazon's new screensavers.
As you'd expect, chaos ensues. Clarkson brings a ridiculously big camera, James gets constantly angry, and Richard drives a monster truck!
While the animals and scenery are beautiful, what's great about this episode is the hilarious back-and-forth between the trio.
This special is a bit of a throwback to the trio's Top Gear Specials of yesteryear. Although the title is in French, the lads are actually in England and Wales due to Covid restrictions. But they're in French cars.
Here, the lads dive into the odd world of French car culture in an epic road trip from the Welsh hills to the English Channel.
Along the way, they race up a mountain, diffuse a bomb (yes), and end by catapulting a Citroen Pluriel into the channel.
This special is packed full of the usual jibes aimed towards the French. I'd expect nothing less.
The boys head to the mysterious land of Mongolia. But, unlike other specials, they don't bring their own cars. They are airdropped a flatpack vehicle, which they must assemble to return to civilization. You can probably already imagine where this is going!
After Hammond and May build the car, the boys must travel to the nearest city of Moron, which is at least 500 miles away.
Along the way, we see Mongolia's stunning scenery and incredible history. You could argue that this special is some of the finest work ever released by the trio. It truly is a treat to watch.
