The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé celebrated its world premiere as part of the Paris Motor Show, with orders starting next week, and deliveries in December this year. (Suggestion: The perfect Christmas gift!)
Mercedes-AMG is once again extending its Coupe range by adding in the new and dynamic GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé, bringing with it a sporty, elegant design, Mercedes Driving Performance and many of the advantages of an SUV, the 270 kW (367 hp) 3.0 litre V6 biturbo engine with automatic transmission 9G TRONIC and AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive allows a drive both on and off-road in the comfort we have grown to expect from Mercedes-Benz.
"The new GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé is characterised by a high level of agility and sporty driving dynamics. With its expressive design and high everyday practicality the Coupé is able to appeal to new target audiences," according to Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes AMG GmbH.
The Figures behind the Figure
The SUV Coupé manages to fulfil a very wide variety of tasks with style, with the convenience settings selectable at the touch of a button enabling the driver to react to whatever road (and off-road) conditions they encounter.
The GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé accelerates from rest to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155mph).
The 3.0-litre V6 engine with direct injection and biturbocharging outputs 270 kW (367 hp) at 5500-6000 rpm with a peak torque of 520 Nm at 2500-4500 rpm.
Using an AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with rear-biased torque distribution of 31:69, and a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission with shortened shift times, it produces CO2 emissions of 192g/km with a combined cycle fuel consumption of 8.4 l/100 km.
The AMG 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine is both powerful and spontaneous and, as we have already stated above, it features a specially configured 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission for a more dynamic driving experience. Thanks to a newly-designed dedicated software application, shift times of the 9-speed transmission have been reduced courtesy of multiple downshifts, allowing quick bursts of speed and more emotional and quicker gear changes in the "Sport", "Sport Plus" and "Manual" transmission modes.
Gear changes are made using the standard-fit shift paddles on the steering wheel.
The Drive for THE Driver
Driving a Mercedes has always been a pleasure, yet they seem to find new ways of heightening the joy of the drive. And with the new GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé this is no exception.
There is a dedicated sports suspension on the basis of the AIR BODY CONTROL full-support multi-chamber air suspension system with a sporty spring/damper set-up and continuously variable damping adjustment that "combines excellent vehicle dynamics with a high level of ride comfort."
The new system allows the suspension to work in normal mode, "Comfort" mode with slight understeer, "Sport" mode with reduced roll for more dynamism and "Sport Plus" mode for enhanced agility and cornering ability due to the front and rear axles being sprung with different spring rates.
And, by using the AIR BODY CONTROL suspension, the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé can increase its vehicle level and height to allow for off-roading at the touch of a button - even while on the move.
The standard-fit AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive combines optimum traction, hallmark AMG vehicle dynamics and maximum driving pleasure on all sorts of road surfaces with different levels of grip, targeting brake application on one wheel in order to also guarantee optimum traction when required.
At the touch of a finger, the five DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes - Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual - can be selected, all ready to tailor the characteristics of the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé to suit individual preferences. Ranging from efficient and comfortable to extremely sporty, transmission can be switched to Manual by pressing the "M" button to allow the driver to execute gearshifts using the shift paddles on the steering wheel.
Steering power assistance is adjusted in the two stages "Comfort" or "Sport", and on-board assistance systems in the shape of Active Brake Assist, Crosswind Assist, Headlamp Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST or ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist all come as standard to enhance on-board safety as standard, with other driver assistance systems available as optional extras.
The Looks behind the Performance
So we know that the drive is going to be great, and we also know that the look of the car is just as good.
Right from the start we realise that the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé has its own independent character and sporty air, with diamond radiator grille with chrome pins, a louvre in high-gloss black with insert in high-gloss chrome and AMG lettering in high-gloss chrome, distinctive air intakes in the AMG front apron feature fins in silver chrome, and a silver chrome front splitter not only doing their jobs but looking good whilst doing them.
High-gloss black-painted, high-sheen 19" AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels dominate the side view, with other combinations and designs available right up to 21" wheels in a bichromatic design.
And at the back the sportiness continues; after all, you want the drivers behind to see how good you look as you pull away from them with power and precision! Sports characteristic highlights, chrome-plated tailpipe trim elements in a four-pipe look, AMG-specific rear apron sports trim in silver chrome, narrow, divided tail lights and a sharp spoiler lip follow the S-Class Coupe look - and that is classy!
Inside, dynamism is reinforced with a colour combination of sporty, functional black with red contrasting features, aluminium trim and a flat-bottomed, multifunction sports steering wheel in black leather with red contrasting topstitching.
The driver and front passenger sports seats are upholstered in black ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre with red topstitching (as are the door centre panels) and have been ergonomically designed for pure comfort.
And driving is made easy via two large round dials and central colour multifunction display with a 5.5"screen diagonal on the AMG instrument cluster, putting everything a driver needs in the way of information right in front of the eyes.
Practicality isn't left behind either in the race for sportiness and dynamism with a vehicle capacity of 491 to 1400 litres depending on how much of the 40:20:40 ratio is used, and passenger space front and rear on a par with the GLC 43 4MATIC in terms of comfort level.
The Infotainment behind the Enjoyment
